WHAT TO DO . . .

All of us who work in a public school know the following fact:
A STUDENT HAS BEEN STUDYING IN FIFTH GRADE FOR THREE YEARS.
What would you do . . . you agree that this student goes to the next grade in next year even thought he\she has done anything . . . what is your opinion about it . . .

  1. we know that our pupils don't want to learn very much, they only want the necessary to get a reasonable job, so good work and believe that to some it will be useful to their future.

  2. I don't know... Maybe the problem is not about them wanting to learn or not. I guess it has much more to do with identifying with the school.
I'm afraid students don't see much of a relevance in the school not because they're negligent but because they don't see themselves represented there. All the time, and through more explicit or veiled means, they are denied: people are constantly teling them they wear the wrong outfits, they speak bad Portuguese, their taste for music is not good, and the list goes on.

  3. It is a difficult question to answer because we have to analyse case for case because some students have many problems and maybe they can`t get to really learn, but others are negligent and irresponsable , then we must be well in this subject, to take any attitude.

  5. Ivanilda, it has been a big problem at Brasílio School, where I've worked for six years. And the teachers, who have worked there for years, have differents opinions. So it's difficult to solve this because while some teachers think like us, other want the students study in the fifth grade all their life.

  7. THIS IS A NATIONAL PROBLEM. MANY TEACHERS ARE PORTESTING ABOUT IT. FAMILIES DON'T WORRY.... SEED DOESN'T WORRY..... OUR GOVERNMENT DOESN'T WORRY TOO.
MANY STUDENTS ARE GOING NEXT GRADE WITHOUT HAVE LEARNED THE BASIC SUBJECTS. THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM CONSENTS THAT THEY GO UNTIL THE UNIVERSITY UNPREPARED.
IF HE(SHE) WERE MY SON AND WERE UNPREPARED FOR THE NEXT GRADE , I PREFERED THAT HE(SHE) WERE REPROVED.
